Leaves not compartmented, blade with canal
A slender, dwarf to rather tall annual, with tufts of leafy, branched stems 2-30 cm long, growing from a fibrous rootstock. . Stems terete, filiform, erect or prostrate.
Ecology UK: (distribution according to flora) It occurs abundantly on the mud of pond margins, and on bare, sandy or arable land throughout the British Isles

Fleurs : d'un vert pâle, solitaires, espacées le long des rameaux disposées en cyme très lâche ; bractées foliacées, plus courtes que l'inflorescence ; périanthe long de 5 mm, à divisions inégales, lancéolées en alène ; 6 étamines

Flowers: 5-8 mm diam., mostly sessile and solitary, arranged at intervals on the upper part of the branched stem and thus forming an elongated, leafy panicle; bracts setaceous, rather shorter than the inflorescence; perianth segments pale green with white or hyaline border, unequal, lanceolate, acuminate; stamens usually 6; style about as long as ovary.
